The Challenge

To Build a mobile application that can connect with the Garmin wearables to fetch real-time data such as HR and stress level and also daily activities like sleep, movement, calm, etc.The data can be analyzed and warn the user about the physical or mental conditions or whether he is able to drive or not. A proper Documentation for the Garmin SDK integration and the ford-tdk integration.

Our team has to build a mobile application that must be smoother and faster. The mobile application has compatibility with the Garmin wearable devices. We need to fetch real-time data from the device to calculate the current health status of the user. The application needs to warn the user about their health condition.

 The Objectives

  • Connect the app with a Garmin device using Garmin companion SDK.
  • Fetch the real-time data using the SDK such as heart rate, stress, current values for steps, calories, intensity minutes, floors climbed, accelerometer, pulse-ox, and respiration.
  • Get the daily activity of the user such as sleep summary, calm summary, movement, etc… from the Garmin APIs.
  • Alert the user if the heart rate and stress level are high or low as compared with normal heart rate and stress level.
  • Connect the application with the Ford-TDK navigation system in the vehicle.
  • Connect the application with the Garmin fleet tab to get the real-time data on the tab screen.

To effectively address the goals of our mobile application, our team opted for the utilization of React Native. Our main focus was to deliver a seamless user experience, ensuring fast loading times and smooth performance. By prioritizing smoothness and speed, we aimed to enhance user engagement and encourage prolonged app usage. To accomplish these objectives, we employed various tools including the Garmin SDK, FORD-TDK, React Native Plugins, and Garmin Fleet Tab Connection.

The Result

We established seamless connectivity between the mobile application and Garmin wearable devices, enabling Bluetooth integration and real-time display of vital data such as heart rate, stress levels, sleep patterns, calmness, and movement statistics.Furthermore, our Android and iOS versions of the application successfully connected with the Ford-TDK via Bluetooth, allowing the retrieval of important metrics such as health scores, heart rate, stress levels, driving time, and fatigue scores. These data were conveniently displayed within the Ford infotainment system.

To enhance functionality, our Android and iOS versions were also seamlessly linked with the Garmin Fleet Tab through Bluetooth. This integration facilitated the display of health scores, heart rate, stress levels, driving time, and fatigue scores within the user-friendly single-page app of the Garmin Fleet.

Our team employed a range of cutting-edge technologies including React Native, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Java, Swift, and Intercom to achieve these advanced capabilities
